Jordan Paguirigan was born in San Diego, CA with family roots in Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, and the Bay Area, CA. Jordan's inspirations have always come from his experiences and his family. Growing up, his artistic side came from his grandma who was a costume and dressmaker, his mom who taught him how to sew, crochet, and garden, and his painter and ceramicist sister. Mix this with being raised by a dad who inspired his affinity for bmx, skateboarding, and body surfing and you get a creative who loves to take risks.
Jordan is a multi media artist based out of Honolulu, Hawai'i specializing in sculpture, ceramics, graphic design and is a cultural practitioner in Native Hawaiian fiber art (Lauhala weaving, kapa, plant dyes, etc.). He is currently enrolled in the University of Hawai'i Art program and is pursuing a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in sculpture and expanded practices. Living in Hawaiʻi, Jordan finds the importance of having a strong relationship to the land. When creating sculptures, the majority of his art materials are either recycled, or natural. His favorite medium is fiber, handmade paper, natural woods, and even stone and metal. His sculptures tend to focus on the contrasts of themes;
Soft vs. Hard, Color vs. Monochrome, Bad vs. Evil, Creative vs. Analytical, and Organic vs. Synthetic.
Jordan has exhibited his art in shows including the Hawaiʻi Craftsmen Presents Fiber Hawaiʻi: In, Of, and About Fiber exhibition 2024 and numerous other curated exhibitions around the islands. In 2023 and 2024, Jordan received the J. Halley Cox Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Undergraduate Students in Sculpture & Expanded Practices. Currently, he is working as the lead graphic artist for the Associated Students of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (ASUH); the University's student government.
